Non fiction books

Wow, such a busy week! This week, the class have become authors and have made their own non fiction books linked to our big question 'are our toys more fun than the Queen's old toys?'

During this topic, the class have thought about different generations and made their own family trees to consolidate the idea that different people have lived through different times and therefore will have experienced different things. We thought about how old the Queen is and about how toys would have been different when she was young. The children wrote some questions to Miss Gallagher's Grandad (a similar age to the Queen) who wrote them a special letter back answering lots of their questions about old toys. Perhaps they could write some questions to share with different members of the family at home too? We have made our own personal toy timelines and thought about how our own toys have changed, as well as comparing toys from many years ago to the ones we see today.

Today, the children have put lots of this topic work together into a big book and have tried hard to include some of the features of non fiction books that we have been learning about in literacy. Look out for labels, captions, titles and page numbers in the books your child has taken home today. We even tried to write our own blurbs and contents pages! Perhaps they could try to point some of these features out to you.

I am incredibly proud of the children's efforts and I know they loved looking through their books too and are very excited to show you. Well done all :)

RSPB

We have had a fantastic afternoon with Roger from the RSPB who led a 'giving nature a home' workshop. The children were given a selection of photos which showed different things that help nature and were challenged to see how many of these things they could find in our school.

The children used a map of our school and colour coded stickers to record their findings. They worked fantastically well in their teams, remained on task and found out that our school is pretty good when it comes to giving nature a home! Well done Orange Class.

Could you do something like this in your garden?

Here are a few photos of our nature detectives at work...

Finley's party!

Our friend Finley will be starting a new school in September. To send him off, we decided to have a party! The children thought of some game...
