Numbers

This week we have been working hard to use our knowledge of numbers to begin solving problems. We started the week by reminding ourselves of what the digits to 20 represented, and as a class we thought about different ways that we could show a number. We thought about ways to draw given amounts and ways to use objects (including our resources from our help desk) to represent numbers. We came up with lots of ideas!

Some of our ideas were...

Using our fingers
Drawing dots
Counting pencils / pens
Using Numicon
Counting out loud
Counting dinosaurs & counters

Some of us even began to think about how a number can be made up of two smaller ones! We used different coloured counters to show this (e.g. 2 blue and 3 red to make 5) and various combinations of Numicon pieces.

We moved on to thinking about one more and one less and have used objects and number lines to help us. This is something that would be great to practise at home, should you want to give your child an extra challenge.

Well done all for another fantastic week in Orange Class and I'll look forward to seeing you on Monday (:
