World Book Day

On Thursday, the children took part in a belated World Book Day. It was fantastic to see so many children talking about and sharing their favourite books in school.

The children took part in a carousel of book-related activities throughout the day, moving around each class in their new house groups. Orange Class were fantastic at helping their younger Red Class friends and making sure that they knew where to go and what to do.

In Orange Class, we were looking at the book 'Whale Watching', a book that was chosen for its fantastic art work. We looked at the range of colours that were used for water throughout this book and had a go at recreating our own 'whale at sunset' scenes. It was interesting for the children to explore using colours other than blue for water and to use big, overlapping strokes in a picture rather than the usual of keeping inside the lines. The children thoroughly enjoyed their activities and went home with some beautiful reminders of their day.

In the afternoon, we welcomed lots of adults into class for our story cafe, which the children enjoyed setting up for. We read 'It's a book' and had a go at making our own notebooks so that we could enjoy more writing at home. It really is lovely when the children come into school with their own stories to share at snack time. Please do keep bringing them in, long or short as we love hearing them!
